What if your dog gets sick?
Don’t wait for your puppy to get sick to find a vet. Ask your pet-owning friends and neighbors for recommendations, then make an appointment to interview your prospective veterinarian. Be prepared to pay for an office call although veterinarians will often waive their fee for an introductory appointment if no animal is involved. Having a written list of questions will help you stay focused. Be sure to ask what type of practice your vet follows. For instance, is it important to you that the veterinarian uses the least amount of medications possible? Do you prefer that your vet uses alternative methods such as homeopathies and acupuncture? Or do you prefer that only allopathic medicine be used with your pet? If you do not feel comfortable with the office personnel or the veterinarian, try again. A good relationship with your veterinarian is important for providing quality care for your pet.
